Melanie the Midwife
Joining the Bootcamp for a second year, Dr Melanie Jackson (aka Melanie the Midwife) is a clinical and research midwife with 17 years’ experience who is known and loved for her ability to make boring facts and figures fun and down to earth.
She is the host of The Great Birth Rebellion podcast and has founded The Convergence of Rebellious Midwives, a conference for birthworkers looking to upskill and develop in their field.
Melanie also shares evidence-based guidance for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, and mentors midwives through The Assembly and her private practice mentorship program.
In Mel’s keynote talk, you’ll learn how to stack the odds in your favour when it comes to having the birth you want — even in the hospital system that seems to be a one trick pony!

Danae Birth Doula
Danae Cappelletto is one of Sydney’s most experienced and sought-after doulas (yes, she’s supported over 600 births), and she is the go-to for Optimal Maternal Positioning (OMP) — a critical but often overlooked piece of the birth puzzle. She is also a pregnancy yoga teacher and certified gut biome, carnivore and ketogenic nutrition coach.
The use of OMP positions and techniques in pregnancy and in labour (when required) helps reduce tricky fetal positions such as breech and posterior babies, extended labours, inductions, instrumental births and unplanned caesareans. The best bit? It’s so EASY even your birth partner can handle it, they just need to know how!

The Modern Doula
Alice is a modern birth and postpartum doula known for her down-to-earth, no-fluff approach to birth prep. As an experienced doula on the Central Coast, Alice supports families in all types of birth, at home or hospital, and is passionate about ensuring families go in to birth educated, informed and excited for their big day.
Birth Different Bootcamp is an extension of her bold, high-vibes and no fluff online birth course and is designed to leave you and your birth partner feeling confident with all the tools in your tool belt for birth in a practical and interactive way.

Nope! It’s never too early or too late to start your birth prep journey. In fact, you don’t have to be pregnant at all. Birth Different Bootcamp is for anyone who wants to feel empowered around birth, including seasoned doulas and birth workers.

Absolutely. Many women attend alone and still leave feeling deeply supported. There’ll be other local doulas and birth workers there too who will be more than happy to practice some of the exercises on you if you feel comfortable!

Yes, absolutely! This will be a great opportunity to learn and up skill from some incredible teachers in our industry and connect with local mums (and each other!)

Yes — and especially helpful if it’s your first rodeo. You’ll get clear, realistic tools from some serious experts in their field to help reduce the overwhelm.

Yes and you absolutely should, this is a team sport after all! If you’re coming together, make sure you book a couples ticket, otherwise if you’re solo you can book a single.

Heck yes. Delicious food + snacks provided, along with tea and coffee. If you’d prefer your own food or snacks, please bring them along as we cannot guarantee food will be free of allergens.

Babes-in-arms are welcome, but the day is content-heavy, so we recommend a support person if possible so you can get the most out of the day.

As this event is catered and numbers are strictly limited, I’m unable to offer refunds. However, if you can no longer attend, you’re welcome to transfer your ticket to someone else. Just send me a quick email at hello@themoderndoula.co so I can update the attendee list. Thanks for understanding!

Although you don’t need it, consider this is your direct permission to wear stretchy pants. We’re going to be seated but also moving around in birthy positions for the OMP workshop, so wear something comfortable and that covers the legs. Considering this event is in winter, it’s a good idea to bring something warm in case it gets chilly!
Things to bring include:
A birth ball if you have one (no stress if you don’t)
A turkish towel or long sarong
