Hmm… Do I really need to attend a birth class?
Short answer: Yes!!! Especially if this is your first baby!
Longer answer: Birth education really helps you (& most importantly, your birth partner) understand how labour works, what your options are and how to make informed decisions during pregnancy and birth. Quality birth classes on the Central Coast can dramatically increase confidence for both parents. Plus, there’s a LOT of misinformation, traumatic birth stories and honestly straight up ridiculous information out there that we are trying to overcome. Good education can be the antidote to a lot of that.
I’m in the MGP / have an OB / have a doula. Is this still for me?
Absolutely. Your care provider supports your medical care, while birth education prepares you and your partner for the experience itself. Many families doing birth education on the Central Coast combine these classes with midwifery care, obstetric care and doula support. Once you have the education, you can prepare better for birth.
Are these classes anti-hospital or anti-intervention?
Not at all. Kaia Birth Classes focus on understanding how birth works and how to make informed choices. Whether you’re planning a physiological birth, epidural, induction or caesarean, the goal is to help you feel confident and prepared. Kaia Birth really does cover it all - super factual, to the point and no fluff so that YOU can make the right decision for your unique circumstance. It’s not a one-size fits all, and that’s what makes it so unique!
What will we learn?
Kaia covers everything you actually need to know, including:
• How labour works and how to prepare your body
• Practical pain management and comfort techniques
• Partner support strategies
• Common medical interventions explained simply and without fear mongering
• Decision-making tools for birth
• Immediate postpartum and newborn basics
How long is the course?
Kaia Birth Classes are designed to be comprehensive but efficient, giving you practical birth education without overwhelming you. The courses run for 4-5 hours over a Saturday and a Sunday. Think of it like a birth prep retreat for you and your partner!
Where are the classes held?
Kaia Birth offers in-person birth classes on the Central Coast, making it easy for local families to access high-quality birth education near them. Currently, courses are being held at The Cottage Gardens in Terrigal. It’s a BEAUTIFUL space and VERY oxytocin inducing!
How many weeks pregnant should I be?
Well there’s no “right” answer to that, however most couples will book in around 26-32 weeks. This gives you a chance to get through the first trimester and when you start feeling ready to dive in to education, you have enough time to implement the tools and techniques in pregnancy. Having said that, if you want to jump right into education, you can join us sooner, and if you’re 38 weeks and feeling very underprepared, it’s never too late!
Who teaches the classes?
Kaia Birth Classes are taught by ME!!! An experienced birth professional who understands both physiological birth and modern maternity care, to give parents a balanced, realistic & well rounded weekend of birth education. Plus, I love to share real life examples from my experience of being a mum of 2 and a Central Coast Doula at Gosford Hospital over the last 4 years, so you get a real understanding of what it’s actually like birthing at Gosford Hospital.
If you’re looking for birth classes on the Central Coast that are practical, engaging and genuinely useful, Kaia Birth offers a refreshing alternative to traditional hypnobirthing and calm birth programs.
