Nothing in life is risk free… even hiring a doula!

I know I know, the doulas out there are like… “WHAT ARE YOU SAYING, ALICE?!!!” but hear me out.

Whether you choose a doula, an OBGYN, a midwife or to birth alone in the woods…there are risks involved. And because I want you to be prepared and informed, I’ve laid them all out here for you.

So the question now stands…will you accept these risks?

⚠️ May turn up to the hospital completley unannounced and in very active labour ready to push a baby out because you’ve been in such a zen state at home with your partner and your doula

⚠️ May permanently lose your “good girl” conditioning and replace it with “I’m not interested in that, thanks”. People may begin to see you as a little bit ‘difficult’ because you have the confidence to speak up

⚠️ Your oxytocin levels peak to unprecedented highs that you didn’t know was possible and now you’re just high on life with no end in sight.

⚠️ You build such a strong connection with your doula that goodbyes are legit not possible and now you’re stuck for life

⚠️ You can’t not have a doula once you have had one so you either stop having babies or start saving for the next round

⚠️ You experience extreme shock that your birth may look nothing like the movies and this is entirely different to what everyone told you it would be

⚠️ Might experience sudden, uncontrollable confidence in yourself & in birth

⚠️ STRONG side effect: your man-of-few-words partner becomes shockingly confident, sexy, supportive, and an expert in counter pressure and positive affirmations

⚠️ High chance of questioning hospital routine policies because you’ve stopped trying to fix the systems problems

⚠️ Possible addiction to evidence, autonomy, and informed consent podcasts and recourses

⚠️ BBQ conversations are now solely about spruiking doulas bc you want your friends to experience it too and they get a bit over it

⚠️ Your partner won’t shut up about birth and even you’re thinking ‘time & place babe’

So… ready to go ahead? 😂🥰
